How To Prep A Room For Interior Painting

Prep makes or breaks an interior project. Here is a simple checklist you can follow or use to check a contractor’s process. If you prefer full service interior painting, our crews handle prep and finish together.

Clear And Cover

Remove wall art and small items. Move what you can. Cover furniture and floors with clean drop cloths. Tape off hardware and fixtures.

Clean And Repair

Dust the room and wipe trim. Fill nail holes and small dents with lightweight spackle. For larger cracks or tape failures, plan on a proper drywall repair before painting.

Sand And Prime

Lightly sand patched areas and glossy trim. Prime bare spots and stains so topcoats cover evenly.

Ventilate And Plan

Open windows if weather allows. Set up fans to move air without blowing dust. Plan your route in and out so you are not stepping over wet areas.
